Fires & Effects 2024 Conference: STV GROUP stressed the importance of security of munitions supply

STV GROUP again supported the Fires & Effects conference, which this year took place on 5 and 6 June in Prague.

At the Fires & Effects 2024 conference, STV GROUP presented itself not only as a proud general partner but also as a key player in the defence industry. This major event focused on the latest trends and challenges in the field of modern artillery, with security of supply, technological interconnectivity and interoperability of alliance armies being the main topics.

Ivo Strejček, who is responsible for the development of cooperation with foreign partners at STV GROUP, highlighted the importance of ensuring a smooth and planned supply of ammunition. The high-intensity conflict in Eastern Europe clearly shows how crucial is the readiness of the defence industry to support both the Czech Armed Forces and its allies.

The defence industry faces similar challenges as our users - investment in modernisation, capacity enhancement and capability expansion is key. Proactive communication of industrial capability development objectives and national expectations for increasing defence capability is also essential. The industry needs to know early on what users and the state will expect from it in the medium and long term. A strong indigenous manufacturing base is therefore a key prerequisite for increasing the self-sufficiency and security of our country.

Ammunition production must be economically sustainable and plannable with regular orders. For states of crisis or war, it is essential to maintain capacities larger than those corresponding to peacetime supplies. Industrial cooperation must be real, not just on paper. The STV GROUP's long-term philosophy is sovereignty in decision-making on subcontracting chains, to always have alternative solutions ready in case of supply failures. Building our know-how has a positive impact on all research, development and production projects.

A theme that resonated throughout the conference was the interoperability of artillery units across alliance armies. STV GROUP emphasizes the need for standardization and limitation of vendor-lock scenarios by weapon systems and ammunition manufacturers. It is also necessary to consistently prepare for scenarios where economic mobilization processes are activated.
