STV GROUP concluded a contract with the Ministry of Defence for repairs of DANA howitzers
In the next four years, it will provide the Army of the Czech Republic with repair and revision services after 10 years of use of the model 77 DANA howitzers.
The Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and STV GROUP have concluded a framework agreement for the provision of services of finding repairs and revisions of the equipment after 10 years for Howitzers model 77 DANA. Under the four-year framework agreement valid until 2028, the Czech Army can provide repairs up to CZK 244 million excluding VAT. The minimum guaranteed purchase is agreed at CZK 80 million excluding VAT, taking into account the capacities of both parties.
The repairs will be carried out on howitzers currently operated by the Army. Revision repairs will concern howitzers stored for a long time. Part of the service of finding repairs is to determine the real technical condition of the equipment and the need for repairs or replacement of spare parts, to carry out these repairs to bring the howitzers to a condition corresponding to the user's requirement for their operability and reliability. Revision repairs are more demanding and include complete overhauls of stored equipment, replacement of fluids, and some parts including brake spindles or checking the engine's condition.
"We are pleased to continue and even expand the provision of DANA gun howitzer repair services to our military. We take the trust of the members of the Czech Army as a commitment and every day in our operations, together with our team, we strive to meet the expectations that users place in us. The Dany is a great example of our Czechoslovak and Czech military history and technical prowess, where after almost fifty years since their introduction into the arsenal they are still extremely effective as an artillery system," says František Tesař, Editor of STV GROUP's Repair Department, on the conclusion of the new framework agreement.
The repair of DANA howitzers is almost a "heart" issue for STV GROUP. Between 2013 and 2015, it carried out repairs of this type of howitzers for the Polish Armed Forces and began to build up a unique know-how in many respects concerning the repair of this equipment. After the acquisition of Polička Machine Works, the repair of DANA howitzers was one of the first projects that started to bring back weapons production to the historic munitions factory after several decades. STV GROUP has been repairing howitzers for the Army of the Czech Republic for a long time. The agreement mentioned above for finding and revision repairs extends the existing portfolio of routine repair services provided by STV GROUP to the Czech Army since 2018, while the company has won a new four-year framework agreement for this type of repairs in 2022 and will therefore provide them until at least 2026.
Self-propelled 152mm gun Howitzer model 77 DANA
The 152mm vz. 77 DANA (Cannon Automatically Loaded) Howitzer is a Czechoslovakian-made self-propelled howitzer that was developed in the 1970s. Its design combines classical artillery elements with self-propelled chassis technology to create a highly mobile and flexible artillery weapon. The DANA is built on a modified Tatra 815 truck chassis, giving it high ground clearance and the ability to move quickly on the battlefield. The main armament consists of a 152mm cannon, which is capable of hitting targets up to 20 kilometres away with high accuracy. Thanks to the automatic reloading system, the howitzer is capable of a high rate of fire, making it an effective weapon in artillery operations. The DANA was a progressive solution in its time and is still used today due to its reliability and performance.
