The T-55 is a medium tank operating not only against armored targets and enemy fortifications, but also as an opportunity artillery system for indirect fire at ranges up to 14.6 km.
The main weapon station is a D-10 or D-10T2SA gun of 100 mm calibre. The secondary weapon station is a 12.7 mm DShK machine gun.
The tank can be fitted with smoke grenade ejectors or blocks of reactive armour for protection against anti-tank missiles.
